Zoysia Grass - Find Out How to Make Your Lawn as Soft as a Carpet

By Robin J. Derry As winter rolls back its frosty landscape, your plants and lawn wake-up to another season of challenges. What would you say to keeping your lawn greener … reducing your watering costs … reducing insect infestations and even naturally eliminating crab grass and other ‘invader species’ from your lawns? Zoysia grass plugs might be the perfect solution. Zoysia Grass Seed: Creating Thicker Greener Softer Lawns. Modern, suburban and committed to the look, and value, of your home and property, you want simple cost-effective and environmentally balanced solutions for a foot-soft lawn. Here’s where Zoysia grass seed delivers Big Bang values. Although originally a ‘wild’ native grass in China and the Orient, Zoysia Grass was always recognized as a ‘fast responder’ carpet grass … and remarkably was selected over 5,000 years ago to be spread over the primitive earthen mound grave sites in order to product thick green cover of Nature protecting deceased loved ones. Zoysia Lawn Grass ‘Chokes’ Weeds Into Submission. Every homeowner contests Darwin’s nature each year, as ‘alien’ and unwanted weed species float over your lawn and attempt to ‘colonize’ any available space. Crab grass, thistle, wild grasses, dandelions, wild carrot … you name it … but none of these qualify in the book of gardening as ideal lawn grass. * Creating ‘Smart’ Lawn Growth. So, how can Zoysia lawn grass partner with you to block Nature’s attack? Answer? Zoysia lawn grass plugs ‘naturally’ invest growth, not in developing vertical height, rather convert mineral, fertilizer and sunlight into a dense network of below-ground rhizome or arterial root system, along with an above-ground deep thick network of interlacing runners or stolons. What does crabgrass get? Next to nothing … no available space, so weeds travel to your neighbor’s ground or anywhere else that opens up. Green Thick Lawns Yet Reduced Mowing. You work all week, you pay the mortgage, and you want to kick-back, chill-out in your free time. Wouldn’t it be nice if your lawn looked great, but didn’t demand that you race behind your mower with every free moment! Again, here’s where Zoysia lawn grass delivers on its promise. Zoysia lawn grass plugs do the ‘heavy lifting’ … conserving resources, exploiting the sun, yet remarkably need to be cut less than half the time of other lawn seed varieties! Yes, you’ll still need a sharp lawn mower, but you can conserve water plus reduce your mowing time but setting the cut-height higher than you would with other grass seed varieties. Important Zoysia Grass Varieties To Know About. Meyer Zoysia grass emerged out of botanical lab research in 1951, reflecting genetic ‘tinkering’ in order to amplify the strong growth, sun-and-shade tolerance and low water needs that homeowners demanded as the modern era of suburbia caught on with city councils and developers. Meyer Zoysia grass evolved with the prodding from USDA engineers from the source japonica zoysia grass seed, the Japanese lawn grass native to Japan and Korea, and a key commercially exploited variety within the over four varieties of zoysia grass. In addition to Meyer zoysia grass, homeowners can look into Matrella and Emerald zoysia grass varieties. Shade, Temperature Zones And Choosing The Best Zoysia Lawn Grass Seed. Growing grass, like raising children, can be complicated stuff. You have to know what you’re dealing with. * Temperature Zones Match. In the case of zoysia grass plugs versus other traditional lawn grass seeds like tall fescue or Bermuda varieties, you want to first check your location or temperature zone for the right variety-to-location match. From hot climate Zone 1 (think Florida, Texas latitudes) to cooler climate Zone 3 (think Maryland, southern Indiana latitudes), you’ll be able to select from zoysia lawn grass varieties including Meyer, Emerald, and Zenith. * Shade Tolerance. Experts’ bottom line read on zoysia grass seed is that it’s a robust, highly shade tolerant grass that will thrive in either fully sun-exposed areas or variegated shade areas, from light (think pine) to heavy (think leafed deciduous). Help to Reduce Belly Fat

By Kathryn Martyn, M.NLP Can You Lose Weight Where You Want? If you have excess weight only in specific parts of your body, you still must look at yourself as a whole. It’s not possible to spot reduce; in other words, you can’t dictate that you only want weight to come off one place or another. In most cases your so called “trouble spots” is where the fat will come off last, so be prepared to lose weight in your fingers (rings fall off) and your face (friends may ask if you’re feeling all right) first. There is hope for losing that belly fat though. Work Toward Building Muscle and Reducing Body Fat If you work toward building muscle and reducing body fat you will eventually tackle those trouble spots though, and develop a better physique in the process. Muscle tissue is active meaning it requires calories to be maintained. If you were stranded without a food supply, eventually your body would turn to its own muscle tissue as a source of nutrition first (muscles are protein) while saving the fat stores for last. Simply put, fat is nature’s way of ensuring survival during times of famine. That’s why the prevalence of heart failure kills someone who is severely malnourished. By building more muscle you become a more efficient energy burning machine which translates to mean you can eat more food! That to me is a good thing. The More Active You Are, The More You Get to Eat! That explains why some people can eat so much more than others yet not gain weight; your efficient energy burning friend simply has a greater proportion of muscle to fat than you. Muscle is more dense than fat. It’s often said that a pound of muscle is heavier than a pound of fat, but the truth is a pound is a pound. What they mean is a one pound volume of muscle is a smaller package than a one pound volume of fat, or put another way, fat is billowy and fluffy while muscle is sleek and compact. Lady No. 1 weighs 120 pounds with 30% body fat so she has 84 pounds of lean tissue and 36 pounds of fat, while Lady No. 2 also weighing 120 pounds but at 18% body fat is carrying roughly 98 pounds of muscle and 22 pounds of fat. Would you rather be Lady No. 1 or Lady No. 2? Which do you think takes up more space, 22 or 36 pounds of fat? I’d say 36 pounds of fat would be a lot bigger package than 22 pounds. How Much You Weigh is Meaningless That is why body weight as a number by itself is meaningless, but your ratio of fat to muscle is very important and worth working to change. Strive to decrease your body fat and increase your muscle mass and you’ll look better, you’ll feel stronger and more energetic and you’ll simply be healthier. You can generally have your body fat tested at fitness centers and most gyms so ask about having it done. It’s better to know you have 30% body fat and work to reduce it to 29, than not to know and only think in terms of body weight. Most people who think only of how much they weigh tend to do everything to reduce that weight, and it’s usually at the expense of losing more valuable muscle. The best way to increase muscle and decrease fat is through a consistent exercise program. Start at whatever is your beginning, but do start. Begin with an overall body conditioning type exercise program, doing whatever you enjoy, whether it be a sport, gardening, weight lifting, biking, hiking, or any other activity. Any physical movement you do regularly counts as exercise even if it is doing laundry or taking out the trash. Get as much as you can out of every chore you do, and stop thinking of it as a chore but instead as an opportunity to move your body. In the early 1900s a washing machine was a new invention. People used to wash their clothes by hand, and hang them outside to dry. Being a housewife was actually a pretty strenuous job. It’s no wonder women were thankful for modern conveniences like automatic washers and dryers, but now we’ve come to where our daily activities are not taking our bodies at all, so unless we want to get fatter and fatter we must do something about it. Get Fit and Belly Fat Disappears It doesn’t make sense to drive around and around in the parking lot looking for the closest space when you’re on your way to run or walk on the treadmill. Why take the elevator five flights every day at work and then pay a monthly fee to do the StairMaster after work? What if we all started to notice that our world is full of exercise equipment. We could become so much more fit if we’d just start to notice all the opportunities for physical movement we miss in the name of convenience. Look around and see if you can spot some exercise opportunities, and then get busy and get fit. ~~ Kathryn Martyn, Master NLP Practitioner, EFT counselor, author of the free e-book: Changing Beliefs, Your First Step to Permanent Weight Loss, and owner of OneMoreBite-Weightloss.com Get The Daily Bites: Inspirational Mini Lessons Using EFT and NLP for Ending the Struggle with Weight Loss. Antibiotics And Their Types, Uses, And Side Effects

By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Yury_Bayarski] Yury Bayarski An antibiotic is a drug that kills or slows the growth of bacteria. Antibiotics are one class of antimicrobials, a larger group which also includes anti-viral, anti-fungal, and anti-parasitic drugs. Antibiotics are chemicals produced by or derived from microorganisms (i.e. bugs or germs such as bacteria and fungi). The first antibiotic was discovered by Alexander Fleming in 1928 in a significant breakthrough for medical science. Antibiotics are among the most frequently prescribed medications in modern medicine. Some antibiotics are ‘bactericidal’, meaning that they work by killing bacteria. Other antibiotics are ‘bacteriostatic’, meaning that they work by stopping bacteria multiplying. Each different type of antibiotic affects different bacteria in different ways. For example, an antibiotic might inhibit a bacterium’s ability to turn glucose into energy, or its ability to construct its cell wall. When this happens, the bacterium dies instead of reproducing. Some antibiotics can be used to treat a wide range of infections and are known as ‘broad-spectrum’ antibiotics. Others are only effective against a few types of bacteria and are called ‘narrow-spectrum’ antibiotics. Side effects of antibiotics Antibiotics can literally save lives and are effective in treating illnesses caused by bacterial infections. However, like all drugs, they have the potential to cause unwanted side effects. Many of these side effects are not dangerous, although they can make life miserable while the drug is being taken. In general, antibiotics rarely cause serious side effects. The most common side effects from antibiotics are diarrhea, nausea, vomiting. Fungal infections of the mouth, digestive tract and vagina can also occur with antibiotics because they destroy the protective ‘good’ bacteria in the body (which help prevent overgrowth of any one organism), as well as the ‘bad’ ones, responsible for the infection being treated. Some people are allergic to antibiotics, particularly penicillins. Allergic reactions cause swelling of the face, itching and a skin rash and, in severe cases, breathing difficulties. Allergic reactions require prompt treatment. Types of antibiotics There are many different kinds of antibiotics. The type of antibiotics you take depends on the type of infection you have and what kind of antibiotics are known to be effective. The main classes of antibiotics: Aminoglycosides Cephalosporins Fluoroquinolones Macrolides Penicillins Tetracyclines Macrolides There are a couple of new relatives of erythromycin (azithromycin and clarithromycin) that work the same way, but kill more bugs and have slightly fewer side effects. The erythromycin-like antibiotics are also known as macrolides. Macrolides belong to the polyketide class of natural products. Macrolide antibiotics are used to treat respiratory tract infections, genital, gastrointestinal tract, soft tissue infections caused by susceptible strains of specific bacteria. Macrolides bind with ribosomes from susceptible bacteria to prevent protein production. This action is mainly bacteriostatic, but can also be bactericidal in high concentrations. Macrolides cause very little allergy problems compared to the penicillins and cephalosporins, the biggest concern with these medicines is that they can irritate the stomach. The most commonly-prescribed macrolides: erythromycin clarithromycin azithromycin roxithromycin Aminoglycosides Aminoglycoside antibiotics are used to treat infections caused by gram-negative bacteria. Aminoglycosides may be used along with penicillins or cephalosporins to give a two-pronged attack on the bacteria. Aminoglycosides work quite well, but bacteria can become resistant to them. Since aminoglycosides are broken down easily in the stomach, they can’t be given by mouth and must be injected. When injected, their side effects include possible damage to the ears and to the kidneys. This can be minimized by checking the amount of the drug in the blood and adjusting the dose so that there is enough drug to kill bacteria but not too much of it. Generally, aminoglycosides are given for short time periods. The aminoglycosides are drugs which stop bacteria from making proteins. This effect is bactericidal. The most commonly-prescribed aminoglycosides: amikacin gentamicin kanamycin neomycin streptomycin tobramycin Cephalosporins Cephalosporins are grouped into “generations” by their antimicrobial properties. Cephalosporins are categorized chronically, and are therefore divided into first, second, and third generations. Currently, three generations of cephalosporins are recognized and a fourth has been proposed. Each newer generation of cephalosporins has greater gram negative antimicrobial properties than the preceding generation. The later-generation cephalosporins have greater effect against resistant bacteria. Cephalosporins are used to treat pneumonia, strep throat, staph infections, tonsillitis, bronchitis, otitis media, various types of skin infections, gonorrhea. Cephalosporin antibiotics are also commonly used for surgical prophylaxis. Cephalosporins are closely related to the penicillins. Cephalosporins have a bacteriocidal effect by inhibiting the synthesis of the bacteria cell wall. The most commonly-prescribed cephalosporins: First generation cephazolin cefadroxil cephalexin cephradine Second generation cefaclor cefuroxime cefprozil loracarbef Third generation cefotaxime cefixime cefpodoxime ceftazidime cefdinir Fourth generation cefepime cefpirome Fluoroquinolones Fluoroquinolones are known as broad-spectrum antibiotics, meaning they are effective against many bacteria. Fluoroquinolones are used to treat most common urinary tract infections, skin infections, and respiratory infections (such as sinusitis, pneumonia, bronchitis). Common side effects of fluoroquinolones include mainly the digestive system: mild stomach pain or upset, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. These are usually mild and go away over time. Fluoroquinolones should not be given during pregnancy. Fluoroquinolones inhibit bacteria by interfering with their ability to make DNA. This activity makes it difficult for bacteria to multiply. This effect is bacteriocidal. The most commonly-prescribed fluoroquinolones: ciprofloxacin gatifloxacin gemifloxacin levofloxacin moxifloxacin norfloxacin ofloxacin trovafloxacin Penicillins Penicillin was the first antibiotic discovered by Alexander Fleming in 1929. Penicillins are used to treat skin infections, dental infections, ear infections, respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, gonorrhea. Penicillins are sometimes combined with other ingredients called beta-lactamase inhibitors, which protect the penicillin from bacterial enzymes that may destroy it before it can do its work. Penicillins are usually very safe. The greatest risk is an allergic reaction, which can be severe. People who have been allergic to cephalosporins are likely to be allergic to penicillins. Penicillins block the construction of bacteria cell walls, causing the walls to break down, and eventually killing the bacteria. The most commonly-prescribed penicillins: amoxicillin ampicillin bacampicillin oxacillin penicillin Tetracyclines Tetracyclines are a family of antibiotics used to treat a broad spectrum of bacterial infections. Tetracyclines were discovered in the late 1940s and were extremely popular when they were first discovered. The tetracycline antibiotics have a very broad spectrum of action. Tetracyclines are used to treat mild acne, Rocky Mountain spotted fever, Lyme Disease, upper respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, sexually transmitted diseases, typhus. The most commonly-prescribed tetracyclines: tetracycline doxycycline minocycline Antibiotic resistance Antibiotics are extremely important in medicine, but unfortunately bacteria are capable of developing resistance to them. Antibiotic-resistant bacteria are germs that are not killed by commonly used antibiotics. When bacteria are exposed to the same antibiotics over and over, the bacteria can change and are no longer affected by the drug. Bacteria have number of ways how they become antibiotic-resistant. For example, they possess an internal mechanism of changing their structure so the antibiotic no longer works, they develop ways to inactivate or neutralize the antibiotic. Also bacteria can transfer the genes coding for antibiotic resistance between them, making it possible for bacteria never exposed to an antibiotic to acquire resistance from those which have. The problem of antibiotic resistance is worsened when antibiotics are used to treat disorders in which they have no efficacy (e.g. antibiotics are not effective against infections caused by viruses), and when they are used widely as prophylaxis rather than treatment. Resistance to antibiotics poses a serious and growing problem, because some infectious diseases are becoming more difficult to treat. Resistant bacteria do not respond to the antibiotics and continue to cause infection. Some of these resistant bacteria can be treated with more powerful medicines, but there some infections that are difficult to cure even with new or experimental drugs. Pagan Philosophy, Unbelief, and Irrationalism

By Jack Kettler Biblically speaking, holding philosophical beliefs that contain internally self-refuting contradictions is an expression of irrationalism. It can also be a case of inexcusable ignorance. Ultimately, all non-Christian philosophy starts with bold rationalistic assertions about reality and ends up in irrationalism. The philosophy of logical positivism is one example. The positivist philosophy can be described as empiricism (all knowledge comes through sensations) with a vengeance. This positivist philosophy is a vengeance against all metaphysical statements. A popular contemporary form of empiricism that derives from John Locke is known as the theory that the mind at birth is a blank tablet (tabula rasa) and then assimilates knowledge through sensations. This theory could be called the blank mind theory of knowledge. The Positivist School boldly asserted as its starting principle that they will only accept what can be verified empirically. The positivists would accept a statement like some cars are red, because this could be verified empirically. A color-blind person would have to take this statement by faith. A statement like God exists would be rejected since God cannot be brought into a science laboratory and inspected. Once upon a time, someone asked, How does the positivist school verify its own starting principle empirically? With that question, the empirical, positivist school collapsed. There are still those who promote elements of this philosophically discredited theory, not realizing that in doing so they have become an irrationalist, or guilty of inexcusable ignorance. Positivism collapsed because, as in all non-Christian philosophy, it contains its own internally self-refuting contradiction. This positivist contradiction is in the same category as with those who assert there is no truth. Supposedly, this assertion is true. Many non-Christians hold to a materialistic atheistic world-view. Adherents of this pagan world-view proclaim their belief in the laws of science, morality, and logic. It should be noted that adherents of this world-view have never shown how the laws of science, morality, and logic can ever arise in a materialistic universe. Non-Christians who hold this world-view continue to proclaim their belief in such things without showing how their system can account for them. This is philosophically called begging the question. In the area of morality for example, the non-Christian is unable to define the difference between right and wrong in terms of his world-view or belief system. Today, many see this ignorance as a virtue. If Biblical absolutes are rejected, it is meaningless to even talk about right and wrong. In a materialistic atheistic world-view, laws against evil, such as murder, are merely arbitrary social formalities. For example, in pagan democracies the laws change when a mere fifty-one percent of the population is swayed in a different direction. When it comes to knowing the difference between right and wrong many non-Christians act as though they have a blank mind. Pagan attempts to define right from wrong are arbitrary, or they borrow definitions from the Christian world-view in order to escape the utter bankruptcy of their own world-view. Matter is silent; it does not speak. It does not say what is right or what is wrong. The definition between good and evil is found in the Bible. God is not silent. For example, the definition of murder is found in the case laws of the Old Testament. The Bible even defines precisely the difference between pre-meditated murder and manslaughter. Only the Christian world-view can account for the laws of science, morality, and logic. This is because God is the creator of the world, and we understand all things as defined and interpreted by Him in Holy Scripture. Nothing exists apart from His definition. Since God governs the universe, we can under normal providential conditions use scientific procedures to help us systematically understand how elements of the world function. God speaks to us in scripture with human language utilizing logically structured sentences in which He tells us the difference between right and wrong. Because God has spoken, the Christian has a Biblical basis for the laws of science, morality, and logic. Only in Christ Jesus can one find answers to the questions of life. In Christ Jesus alone can one find the basis for truth and absolutes. All pagan philosophy suppresses the truth in unrighteousness and ends in internally self-refuting irrationalistic contradictions. Note: Nothing in the above article should be understood as being original with me. I am indebted Biblically and philosophically for the above comments to Francis A. Schaeffer, Gordon H. How a Trip to the Salon Makes Every Girl Beautiful

By Brian McDonald They say girls go to a salon after a breakup, and theyre right that is, in addition to a regular trim, an occasional treatment, and a drastic, once-in-a-lifetime makeover. And who can blame girls for seeking refuge in a salon? In there, they make girls beautiful; out in the world boyfriends tell them that their hair is a mess, theyre too fat, and so on. That is, in addition to countless shows and ads that glorify the perfect face and the stick figure. On the other hand, beauty parlors work with what you have: they cut layers to enhance the volume of your hair and frame your roundish face, paint your nails to beautify them, and so on. After a breakup it is when a beauty treat is highly recommended. No matter how much time she spends crying inside her room, typhoon hair will never be the fashion when she comes out. And hairdressers never go wrong in blow drying hair. Still, a makeover is also recommended when one has spent enough time lurking the sidelines of dating. Or when one has had enough of being in the sidelines. Girls who havent ventured into the dating scene often hesitate to enter it because they think theyre not pretty or skinny enough. Well thats what these miracle workers are getting bucks for. It only takes a refreshing new hairstyle for a girl to look and feel beautiful. These parlor guys should be given credit for taking care of our physical, and not to mention psychological, well-being. This is perhaps the reason salons cater to pre-daters and post-breakup survivors: aside from gorgeous hair, they give girls what they need the most in the world at some point in time confidence. Every girl yearns to be assured that she is in fact attractive. She needs this to be confident to start dating. She also needs this to finally come out from a weeks hiding under the closet and eating all the chocolates. When the devil said that vanity is his favorite sin, he must have just had his layers updated, his legs waxed, and his nails polished. Brian McDonald writes for DrDating.com a site filled with dating advice and tips about dating, love and relationships. DrDating.com has a huge library of articles about internet dating. Ancient Africa Food, Modern Marvel - Hoodia Gordonii

By Tim Grimsley Hoodia has been affecting lives for possibly a thousand years in the African desert, now it can have a positive impact on your weight loss. Hoodia is the name of a cactus like plant, that is a native of Africa. There are many types Hoodia Gordonii, the one found in Africa has been found to produce excellent weight loss results. The power of Hoodia is in the effect it produces on the appetite. Some believe that Hoodia may be the most powerful appetite suppressant ever discovered. Since Hoodia curbs appetite, therefore it can help in weight loss of the body. Phytopharm, a drug developer and manufacturer, identified the significance of this effect of Hoodia for obese and overweight people. The company started clinical trials with various species of Hoodia plant. During clinical trials it was found that only Hoodia Gordonii curbs appetite efficiently and benignly. It was obvious from the beginning that Hoodia would prove to be safe because the San Bushmen of Africa had been eating it as part of their diet for hundreds of years. When questioned they reported no bad side effects to the consumption of the plants. For appetite suppression Hoodia follows a unique path. Digestive system of the body converts, everything we eat, into glucose. The glucose is absorbed by small intestine and transported to all cells of the body through blood. Till the presence of food in the stomach is acknowledged, the level of glucose in the blood remains constant, after that it falls down. When it falls down the brain becomes aware about hunger. Hoodia is a powerful appetite suppressant and can help you lose weight. You only need to give it a chance to help you as it has thousands of others… CONTINUE Article Source: http://EzineArticles.com/?expert=Tim_Grimsley http://EzineArticles.com/?Ancient-Africa-Food,-Modern-Marvel—Hoodia-Gordonii&id=363841 reductil success stories reductil sibutramine discount meridia online online prescriptions for drug meridia

How To Get a Job Offer From Every Interview

By Dirk Wessels About four years ago a friend told me one night that she had an interview the next week and was looking for some comfort as she was extremely nervous, as most people are about interviews. I thought back on my my carreer and realized that in the nine year of my career I had been to thirteen interviews and, more importantly, that I had received a job offer from every one of those interviews. I did not accept all the offers, but the point is that I had not once been to an interview without getting a job offer from it. In the past four years, I have been to another 6 interviews, of which I did not get job offers for 2 of them. The one was an interview at Volkswagen which a friend had setup because he “wanted” me to work there and by the time we started the interview, I realized that the position was not in my field at all. The second one was a telephonic interview, which I hate, and I simply did not see eye to eye with the person who interviewed me. I did go for an interview with another manager at the same company a couple of weeks later and started working there 2 days later. Job offers from 17 out of 19 interviews is not a bad track record and no, I am not some kind of a technical genius that every company would want to employ simply by looking at my resume. I am a computer programmer and there are many programmers out there with better technical skills than me. The secret, I believe is confidence. Not necessarily confidence in yourself, but creating confidence in your interviewer’s mind. I once had a 4 1/2 hour interview in Sydney, Australia. Before that I could not imagine such a long interview was possible, it was for a very senior position. If, like most people, you don’t like interviews in general, imagine sitting there for 4 1/2 hours. Anyway, about halfway through the interview, the interviewer told me that he had another 2 or 3 people that he’s considering for the position, but that he’s got a “warm and fuzzy feeling” about me. Not something I really want to hear from another male, but when he said that, I realized that the job was mine. Your objective, then, is to create that “warm and fuzzy” feeling in your interviewer’s mind. Before an interview, I always think of what I would like to see in the other person if I was on the other side of the table, in other words, if I was interviewing somebody else for this position. Computer programming is considered as a technical field, even on a managerial level, but the technical aspect has very seldom been the deciding factor, unless the interviewer has poor people skills or a lack of experience. Generally anybody with a bit of experience will be more interested in your personality than your technical abilities. I am assuming, of course, that you are applying for positions which you are in some way qualified to fill. So how do you focus on your personality and what personality traits should you try to demonstrate? Let me give you some examples of what I consider as important in an interview. There are two dreaded questions that used to come up in every interview a couple of years ago, though I haven’t heard them for a while now. What are 5 of your strengths and what are 5 of your weaknesses? Whenever I got the first of these two questions, I would start my answer with “Yes, I knew this was coming so I thought about it last night and…” or something along those lines. It sounds wrong, because the intention of those questions is to see whether you know yourself. If you have to think about it the previous night, it doesn’t say much about your self-knowledge. Nonetheless, I do this for two reasons. Firstly, I’m being honest with them. Everybody prepares for an interview, or at least you should! I’m just showing them that I’m a real person and that I don’t claim to have all the answers. Secondly, it’s a tension breaker. Quite often, if it is an experienced interviewer, they will make some comment about you having to prepare your answers in advance and this gives you an opportunity to sidetrack from their “prepared” questions. The more you can get to speak freely with the interviewer and not as a response to a question, the more opportunity you have of showing them your real character. It also passes the time so that they don’t have to think up irrelevant technical questions to make the interview “long enough”. Also keep in mind that nobody is expected to have all the right answers. As I said before, I am not the know-it-all genius of computer programming, so in most interviews there is at least one question for which I do not have the answer or topic that I do not know about. When this happens, I do not pretend to have the answer or try to sound intelligent about the topic. I simply tell them that I do not know. What’s important, though, is the way you say you don’t know. Even if the words coming out of your mouth are as simple as “I don’t know”, the perception that your attitude should portray is that he or she does not know, but it’s okay that they don’t know. In other words, say it with confidence and self respect. “I don’t know because I’ve never needed to use that in the past” or “I normally use such and such instead” and, if possible, tell them why you prefer your alternative. Also try to tell them how you would learn this topic if it is required in your new position. This, again, achieves two objects. It shows them your problem solving abilities and it gives you another opportunity to speak freely. Finally, if you have no clue what they’re talking about, ask them to explain the topic or to give you an example. Again, speaking freely and showing them that you are interested in learning and also that you are comfortable in their company. I also think one of the key factors for anybody in an interview is to see that you can think for yourself and that you have your own opinions. DO NOT use yes/no answers!! Every question that an interviewer asks should be seen as an opportunity for you to speak and not a hurdle that you have to cross as quickly as possible. Of course you must stay on topic or they will think you are trying to evade the question. However, try to elaborate and give them examples to show your experience and understanding of the topic. Even if this is your first interview and you have no working experience, it should not be a problem - remember you are trying to steer the conversion towards your personality and not your technical skills. Even after 13 years in the industry, I still use a lot of examples and stories (short stories, stay on topic) from my personal life to answer interview questions. I have now mentioned this “speaking freely” a number of times and I guess that’s the basis of it all. Remember that the person on the other side of the desk is nothing but that, just another person. I always try to be early for an interview so that I have some time to relax after the traffic. During those last couple of minutes, I stand outside having a cigarette and I play out a little scene in my mind, which I would rather not repeat here. Anyway, it boils down to me having a casual conversation with the interviewer and explaining to them that we’re all in the same boat. We’re all here on this planet for a short time and all just trying to make the best of things. Yes, it sounds stupid, I know. But for me it re-affirms in my mind that the person I am about to talk to is just another person and that I should treat them as that. So let me summarize. Focus on your personality, not your technical abilities. Unless you’re the best in your industry, in which case I’m talking to the other 99.999% in your industry. Remember that the interviewer is just another person and treat them as one by speaking to them as you would somebody that you have known for a while. This is the only way you can have some control of steering the conversation in the direction you want. While being comfortable and speaking your mind, do show respect at the same time and remember, it’s still their interview, so let them have the final control. Finally, BE HONEST. Embrace Your Inner Online Dating Skeptic

By Ben R. Joan, a 42-year old divorcee, quickly grew tired of going to clubs and gyms, and church functions to meet men, so she stepped into the world of online dating. At first, she thought skeptically about meeting people online. Joan often hears horror stories about men who faked entire lives in online dating websites, then ended up being married, or worse in real life. But, once Joan learned the positive aspects of her skepticism regarding online dating, she quickly became much more comfortable with the people she met online, and you can too. Its perfectly natural to be skeptical about new experiences in our livesand, despite the recent surge in popularity of online dating websites, the market still has some kinks to work out before we will feel entirely comfortable sharing our thoughts, hopes, and dreams with complete strangers who exist to us as nothing more than a photograph and an online profile out in cyberspace. So, before you begin to allay your own fears about online dating, understand that they are perfectly natural. It’s especially prevalent in todays world where people may or may not tell you the truth about themselves. So, embrace your skepticism. A little bit of fear about meeting people online can not only keep you out of potentially harmful situations where you might put yourself at risk in a dating website, but it can also ensure that you stay away from the online dating duds: the men who still live in their mothers basement, or commit themselves to band practice with the guys every Friday night, or still spend most of their waking hours holding an XBox controller in one hand and a Michelob in the otherat the age of 45. Just dont let your skepticism about online dating and the people who do meet people online in chat rooms and online dating websites stop you from having your own online dating adventures. After all as long as you stay safe when talking to people online, and meeting them face to face, the experience is quite similar to meeting people in bars, gyms, church functions, or wherever else you go to meet people. Theres a plethora of information that you get in an online dating profile on the vast numbers of online dating websites strewn across cyberspace. So, instead of basing your attraction to a man on whether or not he buys you a drink, as you might in the bar, when you begin to try out online dating, you know plenty about a person before you ever speak to them. The fear about online dating comes in worrying that people might lie to you about themselves, which is perfectly understandable. But, whos to say that those same people that you trust in real life might not lie to you just as easily? Theres a certain amount of trust that we must invest into any relationship, whether it develops in an online dating website or chat room, or down at OMalleys Bar at the end of the street. So have fun, and stay skeptical because those horror stories about online dating that Joan heard, seem to always come from the mouths of nave women whove been burned by an online dating disaster. Just be glad that they learned the horrors of online dating websites, so that you dont have to. Corporate Hospitality in the UK

By Christopher Smith What do we mean by Corporate Hospitality? Corporate Hospitality can be described as any event where an organisation entertains clients, prospective clients or staff at the organisations expense. This includes spectator sports, participatory events and activities, art or cultural events, and any other events. The most popular events for entertaining guests are horseracing meetings, football matches, concerts and the major sporting tournaments such as the 6 Nations rugby, Royal Ascot, Test Cricket, The Open, Wimbledon and many more, too many to name here. Corporate hospitality is usually sold in the form of a package which includes a good quality ticket or seat for the event along with drinks, a meal and sometimes a gift. This is a typical package but it does vary to cater for different events, facilities and budgets. Some packages, for example, would only include a drinks reception or buffet or, particularly at football events, simply the use of a corporate facility with drinks being paid for on the day. Why use Corporate Hospitality? The basic idea behind corporate hospitality is to strengthen relationships. Hospitality really targets the individual rather than the company as, for example, a purchasing director being invited by a sales director is of more benefit to the invitee than his/her company. Hospitality could be seen as a form of bribery - a way to treat the individual in return for their custom but there is often more to it than this. Often these people would only ever speak on the phone or, at least, meet in a work environment. An invite to a corporate hospitality event offers the invitee the benefit of attending the event whilst offering the inviter, or host, the opportunity to get to know his customer. A hospitality event has a much greater appeal than, say, inviting someone for a meal as it is often a highly prestigious event where tickets are not readily available. The event itself also serves as a focus for conversation - an easy ice breaker. Justifying the cost Hospitality packages can often seem highly expensive when compared to the broken down cost of a ticket, a meal and a few drinks but this is not a fair comparison. The hospitality package is an exclusive opportunity and should be likened to other forms of marketing rather than socialising. Imagine that you have a contract worth several thousand pounds or dollars. Spending a few hundred on a hospitality package is as close as you can get to a guarantee of retaining this contract and, in the longer term, can be far more cost effective than cutting the customers’ prices by a few percent.
